How Does OffLA Protection Work?
OffLA is a Fraud Detection and Prevention application for Electronic Payments initiated on a smartphone.OffLA utilizes an offline, on-device, authorization
process – to achieve maximum fraud prevention.
The OffLA application adds three protection layers between the customer and
the fraudulent activity, beyond theonline layer currently provided by credit card companies:

Fraud Detection
A patented, ultra-light, off-line detection engine – invoked by an e-wallet application, shielding all payments made. The engine utilizes sophisticated algorithms and a customer-specific behavior map to analyze each payment transaction and detect suspicious ones. The behavior map is updated periodically daily by a central system.
User Authentication
In case a suspicion is raised, OffLA’s second layer performs an immediate interaction with the customer, in order to check and eliminate the possibility of fraud on-the-spot. The customer is authenticated by providing her SPIN – a Special PIN or physical identification means. Unlike regular 4-digit PIN codes, being used by credit cards for identification, the OffLA SPIN can use any approved smartphone identification technology. It can be a password, fingerprint, signature, iris scanning, or any other identification means, existing or futuristic. The SPIN can also combine identification means.
Fraud Prevention
Only if the customer fails to provide the correct SPIN, OffLA will activate the third layer – blocking the transaction, followed by additional configurable steps: these could include locking the e-wallet and alerting all relevant entities that a fraud has been revealed, in order to initiate appropriate back office processes. A Clearing process would be required to restore locked functionality. Action taken and clearing process are governed by e-wallet policies and capabilities.
